Back to Question # 3

How do I run more than one engine in a single train?
Using Lionel TrainMaster® Command Control, it's easy. Put all of the engines you want to run on the track. (They must be programmed with different engine numbers.) The TrainMaster® system can run up to 9 separate trains and 99 engines.

Suppose you want to program engines one, two and three as belonging to train #5, with engine #1 in front, followed by #2 and #3 in the rear, facing backwards.

To set up this three-engine "lash-up," place the engines on the track. Turn on the track power. Enter the following key strokes on the TrainMaster® Command Remote Control:
<TR><5><1><F><SET> This command sets engine #1 as the front engine in train #5. The horn should blow or lights flash to indicate the command is received.

<TR><5><2><SET> This command sets engine #2 as an engine in train #5. The horn should blow or lights flash to indicate the command is received.

<TR><5><3><R><DIR><SET> This command sets engine #3 as the rear engine in train #5, facing backwards. The horn should blow to indicate the command is received.

You're ready to operate! Press <TR><5><AUX1><O> to set all engines to Forward. All three engines work together. Pressing <F> opens the front coupler on the front engine. Pressing <R> opens the front coupler on the rear engine. Pressing <DIR> changes the direction of all three engines - and so on! See the TrainMaster® manual for more details.

What
is the difference between RailSounds™ 2.5, RailSounds™ 3 and RailSounds™ 4?

RailSounds™ 2.5 established Lionel as the industry leader in model railroad sound systems. With a range of sounds and tonal quality still unmatched by any other sound system, RailSounds™ 2.5 has been used for several years and is still in use today in some products.

RailSounds™ 3 is technically identical to RailSounds™ 2.5, but instead of a single circuit board it was split into an audio board and a power supply. This made it smaller, allowing it to fit into tighter spaces, such as the Century Club GG1.

RailSounds™ 4 will debut with the 1999 SD60s and SD70s. Its improved audio amplifier is efficient, uses less power, and generates less heat. It also has an improved frequency response and dramatically lower harmonic distortion - less than 1% THD (better than many car stereos!).
