Pages 1 Welcome to the second Lionel catalog for 2008
Dear Friends, It's not often that I have the chance to announce a major Lionel initiative in our second catalog, but this year is a most notable exception. As I hope you've all heard, we're pleased to announce that over the next three years, Lionel will release a series of our iconic postwar engines, sets, and rolling stock, each made as true to their original characteristics as possible. We're calling this collection Lionel Postwar Conventional Classics. Beginning on page 86, you'll see what we have in store for our first year's releases. There are four classic sets: #2124W Lionel GG-1 Passenger set, #1562W Burlington GP-7 Passenger set, #1484WS 4-6-4 Passenger set, and the #2219W FM Thunderbird Freight set. Plus, we have a great selection of separate sale engines and rolling stock. The engines will be made in conventional mode only and, for the most part, will be made from the original tooling. While we've taken great pains to make these trains authentic, we've also corrected certain flaws that were a product of the technology of the times in which they were first made. Each will be equipped with Lionel Pullmor motors and our patented Magne-Traction system. The authentic freight and passenger cars will feature postwar-style die-cast trucks and each will be authentically decorated. In addition, we've reproduced the original-style packaging and will include a Lionel Certificate of Authenticity. We've also built into this new series some rewards for our most loyal customers. Those of you who buy any of this first series of Lionel Postwar Conventional Classics will also receive a certificate worth $50 off the price of any of our sets in next year's series. The feed-back thus far has been amazing. Clearly, the Lionel Postwar Conventional Classics collection is something no Lionel aficionado will want to miss. And that's not the only exciting news in this catalog. As promised, we're also adding new accessories to the LEGACY line. There's the #996 PowerMaster Bridge that allows Power-Master users to transition to full CAB-2 operation. And to help Lionel LEGACY operators organize, store, and protect their memory modules, we're offering the LEGACY #995 Module Garage with roll-top cover and lighted sides. As I've said before, we're so heartened by the reception our LEGACY system has received, and we're committed to adding to this line in our continuing efforts to add to your operating options. Finally, aside from these outstanding selections, be sure to check out our ready-to-run Union Pacific Merger Special set; our new Postwar Celebration offerings including the #6404 Brown Auto Flatcar, the #6375 Pickles Vat Car, and the #3494-625 Soo Line Operating Boxcar; the additions to our "Monopoly" collection; and some great accessories the Franklin Mutual Bank and the Main Street Ice Cream Parlor.
Best wishes,
Jerry Calabrese
