Gauge Tinplate Commodore Vanderbilt
In
1934, New York Central Hudson #5344 was fitted with a sheet metal
shroud and became the first streamlined locomotive in America, dubbed
the Commodore Vanderbilt. Almost immediately the locomotives
futuristic design made it a popular prototype for toy train and
model makers. In 2002, the Commodore Vanderbilt returns to the rails.
The locomotive is built from tough die-cast metal and features TrainMaster
Command Control and the RailSounds sound system. The tinplate metal
Pullman passenger cars have detailed lighted interiors with removable
roofs for easy access.
