Electric U-Boats
---For 2002, Lionel offers two new
liveries for our popular scale-sized U30Cs and a newly detailed
U28CG.
The U30C gained distinction as GEs best-selling member of
the U-series. These 3,000 horsepower freighters gave their archrival,
GMs ElectroMotive Division, a run for their money. The Delaware
& Hudson U30s in their brilliant blue, gray and yellow
livery fought the tough uphill grades of that railroads
Pennsylvania division, and won. The D & H U30C is only available
at authorized Lionel Service Centers. The Chessie System only
rostered 13 U30Cs, but these locomotives still drew top
assignments, especially in coal country.
---Unlike the U30Cs, the U28CGs
were first destined for passenger service and were commissioned
on only one railroad, the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe. Although
the same in overall dimensions to a U30C, the U28CG had some distinct
differences. It had a raised radiator section, scoop on its left
side and steam generator equipment on its roof, which marked it
as a passenger locomotive. Beginning in the mid-sixties, the Santa
Fe used the U28CG to replace its fleet of aging F-units on its
premier passenger trains.
---Be sure to check out our all-new
Santa Fe Superliner 4-packs. These intricately detailed cars are
the perfect complement to this one-of-a-kind passenger locomotive.
