DIESEL LOCOMOTIVES

SD-80MAC DIESEL LOCOMOTIVES
---The SD80MAC remains one of the most extraordinary locomotives of the Conrail fleet. High-horsepower, high tractive effort locomotives were needed for hauling increased unit coal train traffic over the Pittsburgh and Boston Line. These coal trains often consisted of an almost endless string of Conrail Bathtub Gondolas. General Motors’ Locomotive Group answered the call with a new 5,000 horsepower giant. The SD80MAC is capable of producing 185,000 lbs. of tractive force.
---Lionel is pleased to offer three great versions of this scale-sized beast: the recognized blue post—Conrail break-up scheme with the P.R.R. markings that signified ownership by Norfolk Southern and the handsome CSX paint scheme that appears on the post—Conrail, CSX controlled SD80MAC diesels.
---We have also included a locomotive born of the question—What if? What if the New York Central System had survived into present day operation? How would the classic livery of their diesel fleet have evolved into the era of modern railroading? With the NYC SD80MAC, we believe our answer is worthy of the Central. Add a set of New York Central Superliners and create a truly unique train.

SD-40-2 DIESEL LOCOMOTIVES
---The SD-40-2 diesel ranks as one of the most popular locomotives ever to come out of General Motors’ ElectroMotive Division. For 2002, we proudly offer this locomotive in two very exciting new road names.
UP Desert Victory SD-40-2
---On February 27th, 1991 a 392,000-pound tribute was paid by the Union Pacific Railroad to the American troops serving in the Persian Gulf War. UP 3593, an EMD SD-40-2, rolled out of the North Little Rock shops in full desert camouflage dress. Union Pacific railroad employees had repainted the SD-40-2 as a symbol of their support for fellow workers called to active duty for the Persian Gulf War. Dedicated less than 12 hours before the cease-fire was announced, it was hailed as “Desert Victory” by UP railroaders. Our SD-40-2 is prototypically modeled after UP’s 3593, right down to the intricate camouflage patterns.
CP Rail System SD-40-2
The CP Rail System SD-40-2 features a paint scheme that’s sure to please Canadian and American railfans alike. In the early 1990s the railway expanded into the U.S., acquiring new rail interests. The word "System" was added to "CP Rail" along with the dual flag herald, signifying the railway's growing North American network. Lionel commemorates this historic international paint scheme with this special diesel locomotive.
