Conventional Accessory and Lighting Setup

This help page will teach you to add Toggle Switch and Push-Button icons to control your layout’s conventional accessories and lights. Power for these accessories and lights must be wired through an LCS ASC2 or ASC module in order to be controlled from the LCS App.

These icons represent two different switching concepts: latching vs. momentary. A “latching” switch (above left) stays turned on until you switch it off. A “momentary” switch (above right), stays on only as long as you continue pressing it. Latching/toggle switches should be used to control lighting and accessories that can safely remain on for minutes or hours. Choose the momentary/push-button switch for short-activation accessories, like those using electro-magnets that would be damaged if left on too long.

Requirements

You will need a working LCS ASC2 or ASC + LCS SER2 installed on your layout to successfully complete this operation. You’ll also need the TMCC ID of your ASC2 or ASC. The power for your lighting and/or accessories must be wired through the relays of these control devices. Refer to their owner’s guides for wiring examples and additional help.

Configuring toggle or push-buttons takes three steps:
  1. Place the toggle or push-button icon on a custom control panel.
  2. Set the icon’s TMCC ID to match that of the physical controller’s relay you wish to operate.
  3. Choose the model of your controller device (ASC2 or original ASC).

To place and configure a Toggle Switch icon:

  • From the Operating Screen, swipe left or right until the desired custom control panel is in view.
  • Tap the EDIT button.
  • Open the Track Pieces dock and select the Toggle Switch icon, scrolling to reveal it if necessary.
  • Drag it to the desired position on the custom control panel.

  • Release your touch. The toggle switch icon will be placed on the layout and is selected.

Button 2
  • Adjust the TMCC ID as necessary to match the base address of your ASC2 or ASC plus the number of the relevant relay terminal, minus 1! Example: If the base TMCC ID of your ASC2 is 20 and your street lights are connected to relay screw terminal #2, set the toggle to TMCC ID21 (Base ID20+(relay2 -1)).
  • Next, choose the model of your control device. Tap the Gear/Configure icon. The default is an LCS ASC2, shown below.

  • You may give this switch a name, such as “lighting” as shown above.
  • To change from ASC2 to ASC, touch the photo of the LCS ASC2 and swipe to reveal an image of the ASC.
  • Close the control panel by tapping anywhere outside its borders.
  • To complete this operation, tap the Save button on the upper-right portion of the screen.

Your newly added toggle switch is configured and ready for use! To operate, simply tap it once to turn on, tap again to turn off.

NOTE: When using a toggle to control older TMCC devices such as an ASC, it is possible for the position of the toggle to get out-of-sync with the physical accessory. Should this occur, press and hold a toggle switch while in the operating screen for at least 2 seconds. The switch will flip, but no command will be sent. The switch is now in sync with the physical accessory.

To place and configure a Push-Button Switch icon:

  • From the Operating Screen, swipe left or right until the desired custom control panel is in view.
  • Tap the EDIT button.
  • Open the Track Pieces dock and select the Push-Button icon, scrolling to reveal it if necessary.
  • Drag it to the desired position on the custom control panel.
Button 3
  • Release your touch. The Push-Button icon will be placed on the layout and is selected.
  • Adjust the TMCC ID as necessary to match the address of the relevant relay on your ASC2 or ASC.
  • Next, choose the model of your control device. Tap the Gear/Configure icon. The default is an LCS ASC2.
  • To change from ASC2 to ASC, touch the photo of the LCS ASC2 and swipe to reveal an image of the ASC.
  • Add a label description, such as “motion” shown below.

  • Close the control panel by tapping anywhere outside its borders.
  • To complete this operation, tap the Save button on the upper-right portion of the screen.
