Lionel Limited Edition Prints by Michael Paul Smith

There are a number of things about making models and photographing them that are peak experiences for me. Doing research is one of them. Studying old photographs gives one the historic details, but it's the "snap shots" and "out takes" that are the most significant in terms of "moments in time". They capture and trigger very old memories. You know how certain smells can bring your past back? I've found that to be true in the visual world, too.

About the Artist

Michael Paul Smith was born in 1950 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. His model-making skills are an accumulation of numerous and varied jobs: text book illustrator, wallpaper hanger, house painter, designer of museum displays, architectural model maker and art director. His love of the twentieth century has been a constant inspiration for all his work.

Photographs of his imaginary town of Elgin Park have been celebrated in The New York Times, The London Times, and many other publications. CBS, ABC and NBC have all dedicated segments to his artistry as well as his phenomenal online popularity--having over 23 million hits on his Flickr site since February of 2010.
