Freedom Train Passenger Set
After WWII ended, Attorney General Tom C. Clark sought to create a manner by which American citizens could celebrate victory and rededicate themselves to the greatness of American democracy. With this in mind, and with the approval of President Harry S. Truman, the Freedom Train was created. From 1947 to 1949, this famous train became a traveling history lesson for people in cities and towns across the country. Headed by ALCo PA- 1 locomotive #1776, it carried important national artifacts and original documents that included the Declaration of Independence, the United States Constitution, and the Bill of Rights, and it was visited by more than three million people. It was the first train to tour all 48 contiguous states. Now Lionel recreates the Freedom Train in S-gauge. Heading the set is an ALCo PA diesel locomotive. Completing the consist are four heavyweight passenger cars. All are decorated in patriotic red, white, and blue. An add-on Passenger Car 2-Pack, sold separately, is also offered.

Union Pacific 4-8-8-4-Big Boy #4014
Picture yourself in 1942 standing atop Sherman Hill in Wyoming alongside the Union Pacific mainline. In the distance there’s a whistle, and, as the noise grows louder, you see a mighty 4-8-8-4 Big Boy come into view, pulling a 70 to 80 car freight train at an amazing 50 m.p.h. The massive Union Pacific Big Boy is the fastest and heaviest single-expansion steam locomotive ever built. UP Vice President Otto Jabelman’s Department of Research and Mechanical Standards solved the need for doubleheading, helpers, and splitting long freights. A magnificent piece of railroad engineering, the American Locomotive Company (ALCo) produced 20 Big Boys in 1941 and another five in 1944. The ultimate articulated locomotive, the Union Pacific Big Boy now joins the American Flyer steam roster. Proportionally scaled down and re-engineered to run on S gauge, Big Boy #4014 comes loaded with features, including TrainMaster Command Control and RailSounds 5.0.
