Tugboats
---In Americas busiest ports
such as New York Harbor, tugboats played a vital role in the freight
business. Railroads that served the bustling waterfronts employed
their own specialized navies of tugs and carfloats painted
in liveries that matched their landlubber locomotive-bound brethren.
This tugboat is inspired by an actual vessel in the Baltimore &
Ohios navy. The realistic whistle is based on
a recording of a Crosby 12 brass whistle, the most common
type used on tugboats. The water wake base is removable, so these
models can be easily displayed on a train room shelf or integrated
into a waterfront layout. Smoke, lights and whistle sounds all feature
individual switch control. All features can be activated via track
power on a layout. Four AA batteries (not included) are required
for lights and whistle sounds in a display environment or add a
36-watt Accessory Transformer 6-32923 (see page 123) for an easy
way to access all of the features whether as a shelf display or
on a layout
