NYC Empire State Express Die Cast Streamlined Hudson & Die Cast Tender #5429
To recapture the luster that time and the depression had worn away from its premier trains the NYC applied Henry Dreyfuss'streamlined design to it's J-3a Hudsons, first to the Twentieth Century Limited and then to #5429 and #5426 of the Empire State Express.
Paired with the Budd Co's matching stainless steel cars, and decked out in stunning silver and black, Empire State Express was an exceptionally handsome train. But no beauty has ever made a more star-crossed entrance as the new Empire State Express rolled out on December 7, 1941.
