New York Central Vision Hudson #6620 In the late 1920s, the New York Central and its affiliated roads undertook a massive investment in passenger service. While all-Pullman trains like the 20TH Century and Twilight Limited took center stage, there were also a growing number of trains which offered enhanced coach service and daylight schedules between major cities. One such train was the Niagara Falls De Luxe Special. Running between Buffalo and Chicago, the train ran via the Michigan Central through Canada and Detroit on an 11.5-hour schedule. Unlike many of the limiteds, the train made the trip largely during daylight hours offering passengers comfortable accommodations with a viewPulled by a Hudson, the consist included a combine/smoking coach, coaches, a café/lounge and observation car converted from a coach decked out in a livery of deep brown and fawn colors. A similar livery was used on the Motor Queen - an all-coach train on the Big Four route. Of the two, the Niagara's run and longevity were both longer - lasting well into the first year of the Depression when even a deluxe coach was a luxury most would due without. Though it may have been an obscure and short-lived footnote in the history of the New York Central, the train's visual appeal just begs to be modeled! Bring back the zenith of railroad passenger service on your line with this beautiful set. Perfect for trailing behind a new J1 Hudson, these six cars provide a proper coach train including the combine, observation and even a StationSounds dining car.
