Lionel Ambassador Review of Lionel/AF Steam Sound Cars
by CASG
Need sound for your older Steam Locomotives?
Well Lionel offers two great steam sound cars; medium steam
6-48870 Great Northern and big steam sounds
6-48871 ERIE as seen in the 2015 and the 2016 Lionel/AF catalogs. Both cars, as with the diesel sound cars reviewed earlier, can run on any AC powered S Gauge layout, Legacy, or TMCC operating in conventional mode. All feature die cast metal trucks, brake wheel, simulated roof detail and ladders, operating knuckle couplers, great graphics and card data. The choo-choo sounds, bells and whistles can be heard when power is applied to the track. If power is supplied by a modern transformer the bell and whistle buttons are most likely provided. If using an older transformer, Lionel sound activation buttons should be used. These can be attained from Lionel service if needed. See instructions for correct hookup. The sound electronics are located in the box car. A connection for a 9 Volt battery is provided to keep the sounds alive when passing over dirty track, switches or directional state changes as well as true shutdown sounds when the power is removed from the track. The battery is connected and placed inside the box car door. See instruction for correct placement. Have fun with the full steam sounds with your older locomotives.
