Lionel Lays Tracks for First North Carolina Retail Store
More News
Lionel, the iconic model train and die-cast race car producer, is officially opening
today its first retail store in Concord, NC. The new location is now a central
station for popular train sets, NASCAR replicas and collectibles as well as
store-exclusive gifts, apparel and keepsakes.
Celebrating
the company’s first store in North Carolina, its new headquarters, President
Howard Hitchcock will be driving festivities with Mayor of Concord J. Scott
Padgett, and the company’s mascot Lenny the Lion to welcome the store’s first
visitors after the ribbon cutting ceremony.
“Customer
service is our primary goal,” President Howard Hitchcock said. “Our new store
brings us closer to our community and allows us to engage one-to-one with longtime
collectors, NASCAR fans and families new to the hobby.”
The
1,100-square-foot retail space houses one of Lionel’s fully decorated layouts,
which will feature differing trains running on it throughout the season.
Special themed events will be held at the store throughout the year for schoolchildren,
families, and the general public.
The
store is just the latest step in the company’s expansion efforts. Partnering
with Lincoln Park Zoo, Lionel debuted its first life-sized trackless train ride,
The Lionel Train Adventure, in Chicago earlier this month. In addition, licenses
for new train models continue to expand through partnerships with iconic brands
like DC Comics, Coca-Cola and Crayola.
Rolling
into the digital age, the company works to bridge its century-old history to a
new audience of next-generation train enthusiasts. Recent successes include LionelTracks.com, the content hub for all things rail; Lionel Battle Train, an interactive
iPad game; and LCS app, a Wi-Fi enabled feature converting smart phones and
tablets to train remotes.
