American Railroads VISION GG1 #4902 To celebrate the centennial of America's first transcontinental railroad, Ross Rowland's High Iron Company organized an ambitious New York City to Ogden special: the "Golden Spike Centennial Limited," often known simply as "the blue train." This stunning 14-car train included three exhibit cars, coaches, a twin-unit diner, dome and open-air cars, and an observation car. The display cars paid tribute to America's railroad past, present, and future, and were open to the public at 13 stops along the route. The journey featured locomotives GG1 4902, Nickel Plate 759, and Union Pacific 844, all painted in matching colors. While 100 passengers paid the full fare for the entire trip, many more, including John Wayne, joined for shorter segments.
