Freedom Train Passenger Set (Conv Alco PA #1776)
After WWII ended, Attorney General Tom C. Clark sought to create a manner by which American citizens could celebrate victory and rededicate themselves to the greatness of American democracy. With this in mind, and with the approval of President Harry S. Truman, the Freedom Train was created. From 1947 to 1949, this famous train became a traveling history lesson for people in cities and towns across the country. Headed by ALCo PA- 1 locomotive #1776, it carried important national artifacts and original documents that included the Declaration of Independence, the United States Constitution, and the Bill of Rights, and it was visited by more than three million people. It was the first train to tour all 48 contiguous states. Now Lionel recreates the Freedom Train in S-gauge. Heading the set is an ALCo PA diesel locomotive. Completing the consist are four heavyweight passenger cars. All are decorated in patriotic red, white, and blue. An add-on Passenger Car 2-Pack, sold separately, is also offered.
