Morristown and Erie LEGACY S-2 #14 With a combined production of nearly 1600 units, Alco's S-2 and S-4 switchers served railroads and industries from the 1940s to nearly the end of the century. Dozens remain in operation today. The locomotives were popular in switching yards, industrial areas and small branch line or short line duties. The primary spotting difference between the two models is the trucks, with the S-2 using Alco's Blunt truck and S-4 the AAR Type A switcher truck design.
