M&StL PS-1 Boxcar #1000 Following World War II, several railroads experimented with aluminum bodied boxcars in an effort to reduce the car's weight. To further reduce weight and help show off the unique experiment, most of these cars, or at least the aluminum portions, were left unpainted. Many were used in express service and were equipped with steam lines for operation on passenger trains. When new, these shining metal boxcars must surely have stood out in any train! Although the concept did not catch on in large orders, most of these cars were successful enough to remain on their rosters into the early 1960s. This collection of our PS-1 boxcars is inspired by those attempts. Models feature plastic bodies with special metallic finishes to recreate this unique yet prototypical look.
