Norfolk Southern VISION GP40-2 #3001 Neither Norfolk and Western nor Southern purchased any new GP40-2s, but NS inherited a sizable fleet from Conrail in 1999. Conrail's roster included four separate orders with multiple detail variations along with five units originally built for Reading. One of those ex-RDG units, No. 3001, is included here along with two representatives from Conrail's 1979 class. Despite their age, NS has made great use of its GP40-2s. Our models show their modernized look from the early 2000s on with class lights removed and ditch lights (front and rear) added.
