Pennsylvania Boxcab Electric Locomotive with Horn
Boxcab electrics were tugboats on rails, replacing the steam locomotives at the outskirts of cities like New York and Philadelphia to bring trains into the station and eliminate steam from the tunnels under city streets.
Operating without the catenary above their right of way, Central of New Jersey opted for diesel-electric propulsion. Their boxcabs were the first commercially successful diesels on any American railroad.
Our Boxcab is evocative of the B1s which were continually buzzing between stations and rail yards with passenger and mail cars.
