Southern Pacific VISION GP40-2 #7240 Both the Southern Pacific and Cotton Belt received multiple orders of late-pro-duction GP40-2s. While all of them had distinctively Southern Pacific lighting packages, the last group also sported a lot of unique body details as well. Delivered in 1984, these "Phase 3" units look more like GP60s with their angled traction motor blower ducts, straight sills and modern battery box doors. Add in extended range dynamic brakes, Q fans and silent exhaust and these models show the ultimate development of the GP40-2.
