Lionel to Proceed with Amtrak Acela Production

(Chesterfield, Mich.,) – Today Lionel announced that it has decided to proceed with the manufacture of the Amtrak Acela, the most technologically advanced model of America’s most technologically advanced train. No O gauge model train from Lionel, or any other train maker in any gauge, has ever contained so many never-before-seen features.

“We are excited about the strong response to our call-to-action for Lionel hobbyists to pre-order their Acela well in advance of production. We are proud to announce that we are going forward with production,” said Lionel President Bill Bracy. “We are committed to deliver the most advanced features, driven by cutting edge technology to create the best train ever made. Even the most skeptical railroader will be impressed.”

Although completely sold out, Lionel is keeping true to its initial promise of making no more than 2000 Acelas. “Even though we are sold out, if people are still interested in purchasing an Acela, they should contact a Lionel Authorized Value Added Dealer as soon as they can to find out out if that dealer has any unreserved Acela sets still available,” said Bracy.

The Acela, designed directly from hundreds of Amtrak and Bombardier blueprints covering every detail of each train unit inside and out, will be pulling into Lionel Authorized Value Added Dealers in September 2005.

“This announcement is just the next step in the development process,” continues Bracy. “Stay tuned to and future Lionel catalogs to watch the Lionel Acela come to life.”
