Lionel® Announces Second Special Introduction of 2004
GS Class 4-8-4 Locomotives
(Chesterfield, Mich.,) – Lionel proudly announces the all-new 6-38079 Southern Pacific GS-2 and 6-38080 Western Pacific GS-64 steam locomotives.
Scale-sized with exquisite separately applied detailing, the all-new Lionel Southern Pacific GS-2 features an accurate early Daylight paint scheme based on the very first Daylight locomotive, #4410. Along with the correct open cab, the locomotive includes the 220-R oil tender indicative of the GS-2, along with authentic builder’s plates making the #4410 appear as she would have during the height of her service in the late 1930s. All-new, matching Daylight 18" aluminum passenger cars are also available.
The all-new, scale-sized Lionel Western Pacific GS-64 includes separately applied piping, pumps and appliances like those found under the running boards of the prototype. While based on the GS-2 design, the GS-64’s received some of the improvements found in the later Daylights, such as the GS-4. Many of these differences are captured in this new Lionel locomotive, including an air intercooler on the pilot deck, the distinctive 235-R tender and an all-weather cab with opening roof hatches, side doors and rear access doors.
"These locomotives are not GS-4’s with minor modifications to make them look like GS-2’s and GS-64’s," said Lionel product manager Todd Wagner. "We’re proud to be the first company to produce these locomotives in die-cast metal correctly from the ground up."
Aside from capturing details specific to each prototype, both of these TrainMaster® Command Control equipped locomotives contain the latest high-performance features, from the Odyssey® System for speed control and synchronized, fan-driven smoke, to the exclusive Wireless Tether™ connection between the locomotive and tender. Both models also include the revolutionary new RailSounds® 5.0 sound system, customized for each locomotive.
