Lionel is aware of the issues pertaining to the premature draining of the 9 Volt battery in the recently released VISION Line Challengers. We are currently working on a solution to resolve this issue and will release our plans to rectify this problem in the near future.

In the meantime, we have developed a simple “work around” to prevent your 9 Volt battery from draining prematurely. If you do not use the backup battery this notice does NOT apply to you.

  • When you are finished running the locomotive DO NOT press the AUX1 + 5 (round black circle on the LEGACY remote) key to execute a shut down crew dialogue and shut down sequence. Instead simply turn off the track power.  The sound system will play its shut down sounds and turn off correctly, thus preserving battery life for the next time the train is operated.
  • If you cannot turn track power off when you have completed running the locomotive then simply turn the volume down to the lowest setting using the AUX1 + 4 keys on the remote. When the power is ultimately turned off the sounds will shut down properly and preserve battery life for future operations.

By implementing this work around the battery will go through its proper shut down sequence and keep the sounds alive whenever the tender collectors lose contact with the center rail during normal operations.

We apologize for the inconvenience this creates for our valued VISION Line customers. We want to assure you that we are working as diligently as possible to develop a painless resolution for you.

If you haven’t done so already, please be sure to register your VISION LineChallenger online at http://www.lionel.com/visionline/registration.html.

Once your locomotive is registered you will be among the first to receive information on how we will be correcting this issue.
