Lionel Announces Historic Layout Series

Kicks Off Series with Long Time Partner,

Carnegie Science Center

(Chesterfield, Mich.,) – Lionel is proud and excited to announce the beginning of the Historic Layout Series, a brand new line of accessory products. Working in conjunction with the owners of the country’s most recognized and beloved train layout attractions; Lionel is replicating fun, whimsical and prototypical accessories from their layouts.

Typically hand-built, one-of-a-kind creations, these famous layout accessories will be replicated as close to the originals as possible for consumers to add to their own train layouts. The first offerings in this series can be found on the famous Miniature Railroad & Villageä (MRRV) layout of the Carnegie Science Center in Pittsburgh, Penn.

Founded Christmas Eve, 1920, by Pennsylvania native Charles Bowdish, this Lionel-only layout has become one of the biggest, most visited layout attractions in the country.

"We are thrilled to partner with the Miniature Railroad & Village to kick off this new series," said Product Manager Eric Shreffler. "Lionel and the "Bowdish Display" (now the MRR&V) have had a relationship of support and sponsorship for more then 50 years. I can’t think of a more appropriate organization to partner with in launching this new line of exciting accessories."

The detailed accessory products include "Mr. Spiff and Puddles" (6-24317), staged in the village park, a man with his dog tips his hat and beckons "good day" to a passing lady unaware of how his dog is undermining his gallantry! As Mr. Spiff tips his hat, his dog, Puddles, raises his leg. "Playtime" Playground (6-24137) features seven simultaneous animations as hand-painted children spin around and around until they are dizzy and swing so their toes almost touch the clouds.

Travel down the road a little bit and visit the "Charles Bowdish Homstead" (6-24140) - a direct replica of a western Pennsylvania farmhouse that depicts the homestead of the MRR&V creator. Legend has it that Charles himself is being walked to sleep by his pacing mother in the second floor nursery. And be sure not to miss the "Duck Shooting Gallery" (6-24139) with real sounds of the barker, gunshots and the "PING" of falling ducks as four hunter figures take aim and get their ducks in a row.

A portion of the proceeds from the sale of each of the four products being introduced will be donated to the MRR&V to support on-going operations.
